A Community for Growth.

Meanwhile these three remain: faith, hope, and love; and the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 12:13

Envision it.

Guided by the Spirit, we envision a community of love capable of growth as our church, our community and our world continues to change. By keeping the example of Jesus’ love at the centre of our intentions, we work to foster an environment that is safe, welcoming and inclusive for people of all faiths, traditions and backgrounds. We recognize the need for a variety of spiritual styles in order to create a well-rounded community. Through this quest, we challenge ourselves to consider unfamiliar perspectives, knowing that as we do, we grow closer to God.

Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.

Proverbs 15:22

Build it.

Barrhead United is concentrated on forming community, regardless of where we meet. As likeminded individuals, our members are heavily involved in organizations outside of the church doing good works. They will be spotted around town volunteering with societies, serving on boards and councils. This community involvement allows us to live in right relation with God, self, neighbour, stranger and Creation. These works build a community beyond our church walls, regardless of individuals’ identity, denomination or membership.

For where two or three come together in my name, I am there with them.

Matthew 18:20

Grow it.

God’s work doesn’t end at the church exit. Our call to cultivate the Kingdom of God on Earth transcends buildings and communities. Our worship includes calls to action relevant to today’s day, age and headlines. Our worship leaders guide us through thoughtful consideration of scripture, tradition, reason, experience and Creation, and welcome discussions that ask the hard questions.

But someone will say, ‘One person has faith, another has actions.’ My answer is, ‘Show me how anyone can have faith without actions. I will show you my faith by my actions.

James 2:18

Affirming Ministry

Barrhead United Church affirms that gender and sexuality are gifts of God, and that all persons are made in the image of God. We welcome into full membership and ministry people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. We hear the call to take action to end all forms of discrimination. We acknowledge that the work of justice is not just about how we treat people who enter the four walls of our church; what matters is how we treat people out in the world. We are committed to journeying to where all people live in justice and peace together.
