Meet Danny Fontaine

Barrhead United Church is excited to welcome and introduce our new minister, Danny Fontaine, to the community!

Danny (pronounced Danné) is Acadian, hailing from New Brunswick. He speaks 3 languages (French, English and Spanish) and is a devout follower of Jesus who also loves to sing. He is passionate about life and about people.

Danny completed his Bachelor in Theology at Université Laval in 2005 in Québec City where he lived for 21 years. During his studies, he spent time doing missionary work and completed part of his theological education in Puebla, Mexico.

He has worked as a lay minister, written plays and programs for churches, spent ten years portraying Jesus on stage as an actor and later became a Facilitator of Spiritual Life and Community Commitment in schools.

Danny joined the United Church of Canada in 2023 and after more than a year attending the Whitecourt United Church, he became their student minister while completing online studies through the Montreal School of Theology.

We look forward to Danny’s ministry at our church and in our community.

Get in touch with Danny here.

Worship

Our Sunday morning worship begins at 10 AM and typically runs for an hour. It combines a mixture of liturgy, song and meditation, along with a whole bunch of friendly faces. It is now available by livestream for anyone who doesn’t want to get out of their pyjamas on a Sunday morning!

Bible Study

We offer traditional and non-traditional Bible studies on a weekly basis that run September through April. They include scripture reading, interpretation and fulsome discussions sure to keep you thinking once you leave the session.

Past topics have included gender identity, evolution and Easter week. Contact us to find a session that suits your schedule!

United Church Women

Our United Church Women (UCW) have been the stalwart volunteers running things in the background for years. They work to ensure congregants stay connected, whether it’s by a phone call catch-up session or a birthday card in the mail. They are responsible for organizing our fundraiser meals. It is also rumoured their meetings include wine. New members are always welcome!

Meetings are the first Tuesday of the Month at 4:30pm in the downtown location.

Fair Trade

In an effort to live in right relation with our neighbours and strangers in Creation, BU has made an effort to make Fair Trade products available to our congregants and the larger community as a whole. Our orders for Fair Trade coffee, tea, spices and dried fruit are accepted on a every second month basis and support farmers from Ecuador to Nicaragua.

Email us if you’d like to place an order.

Messy Church

Messy Church is a church for families who find it hard to get to church on a Sunday. A typical session includes an open welcome time, a creative ‘messy’ time, a celebration (worship) time and a shared meal.

Messy Church is fun for families with children grade six and under. Older children are very welcome as helpers as are parents and grandparents. Messy Church aims to be an all-age, Christ-centered worshipping community with a creative, hospitable and FUN atmosphere.

Join us for some fun every third Thursday of the month from 4-6pm at our downtown location.
